Rescue Me ID: 17-03-30-00121Ruby (female)

Dachshund Mix    Age: Young Puppy

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Needs to be Spayed, Vaccinations Current

There's nothing quite like puppy energy and silliness...and then they lie quietly on your shoulder breathing their warm baby breath. They're so pure and vulnerable that it's unbearable to think of them in a high-kill shelter. Ruby, at only 12 weeks old and 8 lbs (is estimated to be full grown at about 20 - 25 lbs - perfect size for hiking as well as lap time), was facing the end of her life before it ever began. Farfel's Kansas rescuers are compassionate and loving and couldn't turn their back on this puppy...they rescued Ruby just in time. This sweet and engaging Dachshund/Lab mix is starting out with great energy...the excellent ... (Read More)results of her temperament-testing ended with a transport ticket to Colorado and a new life. She's also incredibly beautiful...with the gorgeous chocolate/brown colors that have come out since she received a good, sudsy bath after her release from the shelter. Ruby is appropriately playful and inquisitive for her young age. She's so smart and very engaging...so typical of a Lab/Doxy mix. She's also bright and so loving...clearly having no memory of her scary start. Since Ruby is just a baby, she's a blank slate just waiting for a kind and patient human to show her the way. Ruby has all the potential in the world to be an awesome companion - she will form firm bonds with her family (as well as other dogs and humans) and learn positive socialization skills through puppy socialization class followed by positive reinforcement group Obedience Classes. It does take time and commitment...yet pays off a thousand times over when you have a dog that can accompany you in the world with appropriate behavior. We're open to Ruby finding her forever home with a very active retired couple or individual with lots of energy to train and enjoy a puppy. Ruby is great with children as well but we would prefer to place her in a home with dog-crazy older kids that can participate in a gentle yet consistent training regimen. Ruby will be up to date on her vetting. We're hoping that she will be spayed when she arrives from Texas, however a very young puppy like Ruby is often deemed too young to fix. If this is the case, Farfel's is happy to cover all costs for Ruby to be spayed at our Denver vet to be in line with our commitment to be a part of the solution to pet overpopulation. Ruby will be arriving on transport in Denver on Tuesday 4/4/17. Rescue Me ID: 17-03-29-00019Cody (male)

Schnauzer Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

The very first thing that Cody the beautiful Schnauzer/Terrier mix (These photos definitely don't do this guy justice...he's so cute!) wants to make clear is that he's a LOVE! His adorable little nose sniffs shyly at an outstretched hand...and then an ear to ear smile if it's a loving touch. Then before you know it, Cody is in your lap. He's so happy there because his human relationships are so important to him. This 8 year old, 15 lb Schnauzer mix truly lights up when he feels like he's done a good job... some serious hugging and kind words will send him over the moon. Cody is such a people dog. He enjoys humans of every age group ... (Read More)...but we are searching for an adult or older children only home for this very sweet guy. Cody can become overwhelmed by chaos...therefore a family with very young children living in the home will not be considered. We also envision Cody with a retired couple or individual who want an adorable guy in their lives. Cody, at about 8 years old is in the prime of his life. Schnauzer/Terrier mixes, with great and loving care, live to a very ripe old age. Cody would be so excited to spend his days in the company of his people....he's quiet and mellow enough to spend his afternoon snoozing on the couch or would be just as happy to go for a long walk just as long as he's with his person. Cody would also be a perfect office dog in a dog-friendly workplace. He would be so well behaved and respectful (as long as he can sleep on your feet...great foot warmer). Cody can initially have moments of shyness from the turmoil that has been in his life...a guardian who is present and full of good intention can readily get this great pup past any insecure feelings and let him know he is loved and will never be abandoned. Cody will be arriving on transport in Boulder on Friday 4/7/17. Rescue Me ID: 17-03-28-00558Cotton (male)

Cairn Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Needs to be Neutered, Vaccinations Current

When we are asked about a special rescue pup that is snuggly, sweet and very fun-loving, we can't help but think of Cotton. His smile is shining...and maybe just a bit mischievous. Cotton's rescuer was very quick to tell us that he is SO much more handsome than his photo. She said that he does have beautiful and expressive eyes (they can't be really be seen in his photo but they're dark, filled with wisdom.. and gorgeous!). This curious and really, really smart 8 month old, 6 lb guy (anticipated to be approximately 8 or 9 lbs when full-grown) is a truly great companion. His rescuer described this gorgeous boy as just about perfect! She ... (Read More)gave the following info about sweet Cotton: Cotton is a pretty calm yet playful guy who really is so sweet and kind. He's a lovebug who wants nothing more than to warm your lap and to be loved! He's respectful in my house and has been very trustworthy. Cotton is great with me, my husband, our 3 kids (from 10 - 15 years old), our 2 dogs and 1 very opinionated cat. Cotton's lucky new family will be getting a true gem! We can picture him as the best friend to retirees. He'd be so loyal.. and overjoyed to share his love and good will on a daily basis. Cotton would also do well in a family with dog-loving kids and other gentle dogs. He'd love the fun and active lifestyle...a long walk with his family would put Cotton over the moon. There's also no question that Cotton would be the most popular guy on the block. He loves to engage and just be his entertaining, adorable self. Exercise..perhaps long, leisurely walks and mental stimulation that comes from his time with his humans is important to this guy to keep him happy and well-behaved. We've requested that Cotton be neutered prior to his transport to Denver. We're not optimistic that this will occur due to too few vets in this industrial area of Kansas. If it doesn't, Farfel's will be happy to cover all costs for Cotton's's neuter and microchip if our Denver vet is used. Cotton will be transported to Denver on Friday 3/31/17. Applications are being accepted and can be found at http://farfelsrescue.com/adoption/. Rescue Me ID: 17-03-28-00527Graham (male)

Schnauzer Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Needs to be Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Our sweet and so very cute Graham couldn't be more loving no matter how hard he tried. Graham is a 9 - 12 month old, 20 lb Schnauzer mix with Tibetan Terrier shining through. He is just waiting to be the love of someone's life. Graham has had a very challenging period of time ending up in a high-kill Kansas shelter. Graham is now safe and sound‰'Û|never to be cold or hungry again. But with it all, Graham doesn't hold a grudge and desires only to be the best companion possible. Since he is so young, Graham is a blank slate‰'Û|open to all possibilities if treated kindly and with respect. Group training classes with his family and a ... (Read More)positive reinforcement trainer would truly serve both Graham and his people. Together they will learn the skills to have him be a dog that is well-behaved in every situation. It also creates strong bonds of respect between pup and family. Farfel's is happy to provide a list of positive reinforcement trainers in your area. Graham may initially be a bit shy when he's in new situations‰'Û|but with love and respect‰'Û|and of course some great treats‰'Û|Graham is on his way to his favorite people's lap! He would also love to come along, be it to a dog-friendly workplace, on vacation or socializing..Graham would love to be there as Best Friend #1. Graham's Kansas rescuer (who has fallen in love with this engaging little guy) had the following to say about Graham: Graham is absolutely the little gentleman and the sweetest baby! I think Graham is the cutest scruffy mix with the most amazing dark eyes I've ever seen! He loves our mini schnauzer and even our opinionated kitty. Graham actually does really well with all the dogs and cats he's been exposed to. I think he might be thrilled if there was another dog in the house as he's very social in an extremely positive sort of way. He could do well as an only-dog if his family is very present and includes Graham as a true family member. Graham is just naturally very clean about himself...always preferring to use the outdoor area. He's respectful of my home and tries so hard to have great behavior. Graham is going to be the best companion ever for a very lucky family! He's been such a joy we can barely stand to see him go while wishing him the best life ever. Farfel's Rescue envisions Graham in a home that will provide him with exercise and mental stimulation‰'Û|other dogs help with play and socialization. He wouldn't be happy spending long hours alone‰'Û|Graham is far too people-oriented to be happy with that. Retirees or a person who works from home would be great. Graham would love the companionship and consistency of those relationships. Being so young, he'd also learn that he's loved and cared for‰'Û|a lesson that results in a happy and confident adult dog. Graham will not be neutered when he arrives in Denver - while we request it, there just aren't enough vets to cover the needs of the vast number of homeless dogs in this part of Kansas. Farfel's is happy to cover all costs for Graham's neuter and microchip if our Denver vet is used. Graham will be arriving on transport in Denver on Friday 3/31/17. Rescue Me ID: 17-03-26-00109Cruz (male)

Lab Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Cruz is just a young guy and is learning about the ways of the world. He loves his time outside in the sunshine with his foster and is enjoying learning new socialization skills...he's a very engaging and cuddly guy! Any time a fun adventure is the order of the day - count Cruz in! Both Labs and Poodles are known to engage joyfully and energetically and then crash on the couch snuggling close to their favorite humans and canines. We're not swearing that Cruz is a Labradoodle...this breed mix was suggested by a Texas vet and we agree it's possible...however it's always difficult to know for certain. Cruz is as cute as can be.. and a ... (Read More)very sweet guy who's so grateful to be free from his days at the shelter. Cruz's sweet nature is just waiting to be enjoyed and appreciated...he makes close playmates everywhere he goes. Cruz is friendly (while perhaps initially shy) and that means everyone he meets has the potential to become a close companion. You know when a loved one approaches, Cruz's tail starts the greeting and it wiggles up through his entire body ending in a smile. And if the couch is available, up Cruz loves to go to cuddle and snuggle and let you know the level of his devotion. Cruz is such a wonderful being...we think he represents the best qualities of his breeds. At 18 - 24 months old and 35 lbs (the perfect size to love hiking the Colorado trails with his family), Cruz seems to have left behind the neglect and lack of love that made up his early life. He has become a fuzzy ball of good-will that loves to please. The happier his family is with his behavior, the more he shines with his accomplishments. We would like to see Cruz in a home that includes him in family time and activities...he'd love to be involved and would thrive in a forever home that truly loves him and considers him a very important family member. Cruz would be a wonderful companion for retirees who have the time and desire to be best friends with a truly adorable young dog. Cruz would also be very happy in a family with gentle, dog-loving children. Cruz would be overjoyed to accompany his favorite people to the park, walking beautiful Colorado trails and even riding shotgun running errands. Cruz doesn't require another dog to be happy.(as long as he gets both physical exercise and mental stimulation from his people). He does, however, enjoy his canine relationships with kind and gentle dogs. As per Cruz's Texas rescuers: Cruz arrived at the shelter with abrasions on his foot...and therefore was scheduled for euthanasia. We received a plea for Cruz's life and were very touched by his story...we were happy to save Cruz and welcome him into Farfel's Rescue. Cruz is matted with a sad shelter coat... he will require a commitment to periodic grooming and great nutrition (salmon oil would be a great supplement for Cruz) to keep his coat healthy with a cottony-soft feel. Cruz has been great with the rescue dogs in his foster home. He also enjoys his foster family and friends who have stopped over. Cruz is learning his leash skills and always tries so hard to do his best. Cruz is very ready for a great home and will bring so much love and kindness to his family. He's definitely a shelter favorite! Cruz will arrive on transport in Denver on Friday 11/4/16. Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

The Shih Tzu/Poodle mixes are a perfect combo for those who are searching for an extremely sweet and loyal family dog. Of utmost importance...these breeds are famous for their temperaments, intelligence and very loving ways. They're also known to be trustworthy and very loving with family members and other family pets. Since this breed mix requires a certain amount of exercise (all dogs do) and love being with their people...if a walk or outdoor fun is the order of the day - count them in! (Read More)and engaging guy who favors the silliness and fun of the Shih Tzu while taking on the very engaging qualities and intellect of the Poodle. Bryce will require periodic baths, grooming and great nutrition to keep his coat healthy and cottony-soft. As the old coat of his shelter days grows out (as he's given the gift of a great diet), Bryce's coat will grow in shining, super-soft and shed-free. Bryce's sweet nature is just waiting to be enjoyed and appreciated. Once he is comfortable, Bryce is social and that means everyone he meets has the potential to become a friend. You know when a loved one approaches, Bryce's tail starts the greeting and it wiggles up through his body ending in a smile. And if a place is available next to a favorite family member, up Bryce goes to cuddle and snuggle and let you know the level of his devotion. Bryce is such a wonderful being...we think he represents the best qualities of his breeds. Golden Retriever Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Chewy would be such a perfect companion for anyone who is searching for that active and loyal hiking partner. At just about 10 - 12 months old and 50 lbs (anticipated to be about 52 or so lbs when full grown), Chewy is a take-along kind of guy that can be a full-time best friend...accompanying his guardians everywhere a very sweet dog is allowed. It's always amazing to us at Farfel's Rescue that these dogs with great temperaments...as well as so very adorable...end up in precarious situations. It just doesn't get much cuter than Chewy's scruffy Golden Retriever cuteness. Chewy was a last-minute save for us...he would have died on the ... This guy is just so awesome with his whole life lying in front of him...a life in which he can bring so much joy to a special family. Chewy, as a young guy, is a blank slate waiting to learn about the world. With clear guidance and positive reinforcement group obedience classes (Farfel's is happy to share a list of approved force-free trainers in your area), Chewy will have great behavior and be a very bonded companion. He is an all-time snuggler and will cuddle his way into any heart! Chewy loves children and enjoys playing with them...but we would only be open to older, dog-crazy kids. Chewy is a very young Golden, and while always meaning well, he's so friendly and excited to see his family that he can be too engaging for a very young child. Active retirees who have the time, love and energy for a young guy would also be perfect for Chewy. He would thrive on the time spent together and would be the most loyal best friend ever. For those family members who enjoy walks and time outside in the beautiful Colorado scenery, Chewy would love nothing more than to share the experience. He is always up for a walk, fascinated by the activity around him. He breathes in the air, so happy to be part of a loving family. Then, maybe his favorite part...it's time to end the day with hugs, belly rubs and a warm spot on the bed beside his favorite people. Chewy is in a foster home in the Denver area. Maltese Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults

Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

When we are asked about a special rescue pup that is snuggly, sweet and very fun-loving, we can't help but think of Leo. His smile is shining...and maybe just a bit mischievous. Leo's rescuer was very quick to tell us that he is SO handsome..even cuter than his photos. She said that he has beautiful and expressive eyes (it can't be seen in his photo but they're gorgeous and filled with wisdom!). Once Leo has a much-needed grooming, his cuter than cute face will show the adorable features of the Cairn and the cottony-soft, hypoallergenic coat of the Maltese. Leo's rescuer shared that they know it's morning when Leo's little head comes under the blanket...getting closer and closer..and then a huge kiss of love. This curious and really, really smart 12 - 18 month old, 12 lb guy is a truly great companion. There aren't visible signs that Leo was in a very scary situation...he was viciously attacked by two large dogs. In awful condition and surrendered to the shelter to be euthanized, his compassionate rescuer saw all the great possibilities in this wonderful dog. She took him in and nurtured his body and soul for months. He's now healthy, very happy...and ready for a great forever home. Leo's caretaker described this gorgeous boy as almost perfect! She said the following: Leo is an often calm yet playful guy who is wonderful! He's a lovebug who wants nothing more than to warm your lap and is devoted and SO sweet! He's absolutely great with me, my husband, our 3 kids (from 14 - 20 years old) as well as our 2 dogs. His lucky forever family is getting a true gem! We picture Leo as the best friend to retirees. He'd be so loyal.. and overjoyed to share his love and good will on a daily basis. Checkers would also do well in a family with older, dog-loving kids and another dog. He'd love the fun and active lifestyle...a long walk would put Leo over the top. There's also no question that he would be the most popular guy on the block. Exercise - perhaps long, leisurely walks socializing around the neighborhood ...and mental stimulation that comes from his time with his humans is important to this guy to keep him happy and well-behaved. This adorable and fun-loving Terrier mix appears to be a non-shedder (although we would never swear to it). Jazzy, at just about 9 months old and 7 lbs (anticipated full-grown weight of approximately 9 lbs) , is initially a bit hesitant...then the most bonded and loving girl around. She's also very beautiful and so sweet. It makes her foster mom smile to watch Jazzy having the time of her life in her home. This loving Chiweeny enjoys her time with her foster mom so ... (Read More)much that she joins her just about everywhere...a true best friend! She just generally enjoys all kind and gentle people. Jazzy is truly a little lap-dog extraordinaire and derives so much joy from her time spent with kind, dog-loving people. Jazzy also enjoys other dogs who are gentle to play with and great companions. This adorable puppy exudes love and loyalty...and it's catching! Jazzy's tough early life has left some initial shyness..but a soft touch and a yummy treat are perfect to bring Jazzy out of her shell. She continues to blossom every day that she's out of the shelter and in a loving and kind environment. Jazzy's bond to her people and her small size leads us to believe that Jazzy would be happy in either an active retiree's home...she would blossom with the time, attention and lap time that this type of family would offer. Or a family with dog-loving, very gentle children who respect Jazzy's small size would also be so much fun. Jazzy is so portable that she is able to accompany her family just about anywhere...be it under the seat on a plane or riding shotgun in the car, Jazzy is ready and willing. She is a welcome guest in every situation...when comfortable, her joy starts with her little wagging tail and works its way to the smile on her cuter-than-cute face. Watch out - before you know it, Jazzy has crept into your lap and snuggled up to spend time together. Say the word walk ...or simply play together...and Jazzy is all over it. Off she'll go in anticipation of not only an adventure, but an interaction with loving humans and friendly dogs. Jazzy has an amazing attitude for a little dog from a scary shelter... it was definitely her great temperament that saved this sweet pup's life. We've requested that Jazzy be spayed prior to her transport to Denver. We're not optimistic that this will occur due to far too few vets in this industrial area of Texas. If it doesn't, Farfel's will be happy to cover all costs for Jazzy's spay and microchip if our Denver vet is used. Jazzy will arrive on transport in Denver on Sunday 3/26/17. Schnauzer Mix    Age: Young Puppy

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Needs to be Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Zurich is an incredibly cute ball of cottony fur that climbs into your heart (and lap) with a wag and kiss. Once he gets a sudsy bath and grooming...Zurich will absolutely be one of the cutest puppies around. At just 4 months old and 9 lbs (anticipated to weigh about 15 lbs when full-grown) Zurich is every bit the puppy...fun and active....but at the same time he is a very well-behaved and happy puppy who is learning about the world. At this early point in Zurich's development, he loves everyone..be it human or canine. We want to nurture this positive vision of the world by matching Zurich to a family who expresses their devotion for him ... (Read More)in many different ways. We'd like Zurich to attend positive reinforcement group obedience group classes to be the very best adult dog he's capable of being. Right now, Zurich is a blank slate who will soak up positive feedback with every effort to be the best behaved guy around. We'd also like Zurich to be placed in a home with gentle, dog-loving children or with an active adult family who will include him in their activities. Zurich is so portable that he can easily be a constant companion - he would love nothing more than hikes on beautiful Colorado trails, trips to the store (he's a great window-shopping friend) or even a place at a pet-friendly workplace. Zurich is so young that he can be introduced to virtually any situation...and if there is love and gentle guidance...he can succeed. Zurich's new family needs to have the motivation and energy for a puppy...he requires training, behavioral guidance and tons of love to give him a positive attitude about the world. Zurich will not be neutered when he arrives in Denver - while we request it, there just aren't enough vets to cover the needs of the vast number of homeless dogs in this part of Kansas. Farfel's is happy to cover all costs for Zurich's's neuter and microchip if our Denver vet is used. Zurich is a non-shedding guy (or lightly shedding..difficult to tell) and will therefore require a commitment to periodic grooming and great nutrition to keep his coat cottony-soft and matt-free. Zurich will be arriving on transport in Boulder on Tuesday 3/21/17. Pomeranian Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Needs to be Neutered, Vaccinations Current

When Dante's rescuer walked down the aisle of the dismal Kansas shelter, she was shocked to see the adorable (and extremely dirty and matted) Dante tucked tightly into a cage...his time was up. Farfel's immediately got a call describing how incredibly cute and sweet this Pomeranian mix is..and the need to save his life. We immediately agreed and Dante became a very treasured Farfel's dog. He earned a ticket to a wonderful new life in Colorado with his great temperament that held every possibility for a great future. At just 2.5 - 3 years old and 12 lbs, this very beautiful guy is a blank slate waiting for positive input and guidance to be ... (Read More)the best dog he's capable of being. We'd love to match Dante to a family that will spend lots of time with this very portable guy. He's a perfect size to accompany his family just about anywhere...and would love it. Positive reinforcement group obedience class will not only provide socialization and great skills...but will cement the relationship between Dante and his family. He's so smart that he's a natural to succeed in learning his skills...and would be so excited at his success! Dante gets lots of attention when he's out and about...he's engaging (while a bit shy at first) and as sweet as can be. He's also extremely eye-catching...he appears to be mostly Pomeranian with a bit of Tibetan Spaniel .. but we would never swear to it. He's just an adorable and fun scruffy guy that's irresistible! When Dante turns that gentle look in your direction (with those amazing dark and expressive eyes), you can't help but smile at his adorable ways. You can see a bit of a sign that this young pup has had difficult times. But not for him to be negative..a smile and a wag is more Dante's style. It's clear that he is working on leaving any pain behind. Farfel's Rescue is searching for an adult family (or adults with older dog-loving kids) for Dante. It''s not that he actively doesn't like young kids..it just appears that Dante appears to be more comfortable around the energy of adults or older kids. A retired couple or individual would be perfect for this guy. He would thrive on the time and attention that retirees often put into their pets. Dante, once bonded, will be a loyal and positive companion....that makes him very easy to spend time with just enjoying the wonders of life in Colorado. Dante would also enjoy time with dogs of similar size who can be gentle playmates. When you're only 12 lbs, even a very well-adjusted pup can be intimidated by larger, rambunctious dogs . Dante is so grateful being out of the shelter that there's almost a smile on his beautiful face. Dante is a very happy guy once he's comfortable...a bit of loving, treats and belly rubs will truly get this guy's attention as he's had far too little of all in his life. Dante's rescuer is very happy to report that Dante is coming out of his shell more each day...he's blossoming. She's very clear that Dante will be a wonderful and bonded family member when he has love and nurturing as a part of his life. Dante will be arriving on transport in Denver on Tuesday 3/21/17. Applications are being accepted and can be found at http://farfelsrescue.com/adoption/.     Chance could be that dream come true pup for retirees who love spending their time with a cottony-soft and very sweet companion. There's no question that Chance would also do well with gentle older kids who enjoy the fun and positive energy that a sweet little dog brings to a family. We'd like only older children in Chance's family not because he dislikes young kids...but because Chance is only 10.5 lbs and 12 - 18 months old, we want to make certain he's handled gently and respectfully. Chance has had a hard life without lots of love and nurturing...but not for him to be negative or sad. Farfel's is very committed to placing Chance ... (Read More)with a family that derives great joy from showering a beautiful and sweet dog with nothing but love and kindness. Once comfortable (it may take a bit of cuddling time) Chance loves playing and is entertaining in his antics, young energy and the huge love inside just waiting to blossom. Chance's story is all too common in his extremely close call to being euthanized in a scary Kansas shelter....but who could ignore his adorable manner and the huge potential he has? Chance is initially a bit shy..but give him some time (a soft belly rub and yummy treats are helpful) and he inches just a bit closer to a welcoming lap. Before you know it he's gently loving you with a soft kiss and a wagging tail. The awesome Kansas rescuer recognized all of this and knew that there was a home out there that would love, respect and make this little guy a permanent member of their family. Chance would do well with a family who's invested in spending time with their pup. He's so pleasant and portable that he can be a part of any adventure....it can be a leisurely walk, a visit with friends, a car ride on vacation or just an afternoon spending time together plopped down on the couch - all of this would speak to Chance's temperament. We aren't open to a home where everyone spends their days working full-time outside of the home....we'd like Chance to get more time and attention than is possible with that lifestyle. We've requested that Chance be neutered prior to his arrival in Colorado. This is often not possible due to the limited number of vets in this industrial area of Kansas and the vast number of dogs. If his fixing doesn't occur, Farfel's will be happy to cover all costs for his neuter and microchip at our vet in Denver. Chance is being fostered in the Boulder area. Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

We got a very concerned email from Texas about sweet Ava ...the shelter was set on finding a home for this beautiful (with the most amazing eyes that speak of great wisdom) and very loving Cairn Terrier/Border Terrier mix. Ava was recognized for her goodness and sweet personality (and her cuteness always attracts admirers everywhere she goes). But as stunning as Ava is on the outside (although this poor girl will be so happy after a sudsy bath and a trim) it just doesn't compare with the love and good-will that flows from the heart of this wonderful girl. Ava aced her temperament testing (she passed with flying colors) and got a perfect ... (Read More)on her vetting assessment. Off she went to her foster home...to be reminded of respectful house skills and to wait for her transport to Denver and a brand new life. Since Ava has gotten an A for sweetness, cuddling and general positive behavior...she's ready to be a devoted family member. We envision her in a home either with older and very gentle children who love her more than anything. She'd also be a natural in a home with retirees who will shower time and attention on this devoted and engaging pup. We would never want Ava in a situation where she's alone for many hours while her family is working full time. Instead we would love for her to be taken along on walks, adventures and visits with dog-loving friends. She's almost impossible not to fall in love with...her manner speaks of kindness and love. Ava also travels like a champ - she loves nothing more than coming along on errands, social visits and any adventure that keeps her together with those she loves. She would also be a natural to come along on vacations or getaways and is a perfect companion and lap dog. At about 10 months old and 5.6 lbs..Ava is so easy to scoop up and take along anywhere. She's so pleasant with everyone that she attracts admirers everywhere she goes. But it will definitely be the special lap and familiar touch that will draw Ava back to her family every time...she's a one-family girl! Ava is arriving on transport in Boulder in late March. Farfel's is currently accepting applications for our sweet girl.     When Astro's rescuer received the call that there was a dog wandering the streets of her neighborhood of Houston, she wanted to help. It definitely made a difference that this poor guy was as sweet as can be and just as adorable. After meeting Astro ( his kind energy was immediately apparent)...Farfel's got a call describing how incredibly cute and sweet this Mini Australian Shepherd/Spaniel mix is..and the need to save his life. Positive reinforcement group obedience class will not only provide socialization and great skills...but will cement the relationship between Astro and his family. He's so smart that he's a natural to succeed in learning his skills...and would be so excited at his successes! Astro gets lots of attention when he's out and about...he's engaging (while a bit shy at first) and as sweet as can be. He's also extremely eye-catching...he appears to be a mix of the very popular (and sadly opportunistically bred) Mini Australian Shepherd with a bit of Spaniel.. but we would never want to swear to it. He's just an adorable and fun scruffy guy that's irresistible! When Astro turns that gentle look in your direction (with those amazing dark and expressive eyes), you can't help but smile at his adorable ways. You can see a bit of a sign that this young pup has had difficult times. But not for him to be negative..a smile and a wag is more Astro's style. It's clear that he is working on leaving any pain behind. It's not unusual to see a sensitive guy like Astro with dermatitis after the stress of being homeless on the streets. This skin condition comes about from anxiety and filth. Astro will be held in a Texas foster home prior to his transport to Colorado. He will be provided with great nutrition, medicated salves/baths, antibiotics and tons of love and nurturing. This condition heals quickly with these appropriate medications and a clean/nurturing environment. Farfel's Rescue is searching for either active retirees or a family that chooses to spend lots of time with their pup. Retirees tend to make their dogs true family members while being open to them coming along in their daily lives. Astro would thrive on the time and attention of this type of lifestyle. A family with dog-crazy kids would also be great. Astro would love nothing more than to come along for baseball practice and fun activities. Once bonded, Astro will be a loyal and positive companion....that makes him very easy to spend time with just enjoying the wonders of life in Colorado. Astro would also enjoy time with dogs of similar size who can be gentle playmates. It is Astro's love affair with life and all the hardships that he's suffered along the way that motivates us to put him through Heartworm treatments..his precious life deserves to be saved! Astro has tested low HW+ and Farfel's (with the help of Dr G in Denver) has volunteered to save this very special dog's life. The heart worm treatment process involves several shots followed by a short period of quiet time for the dog. We have found this protocol to be very successful and the dogs go on to live long, happy lives. We are seeking an adopter to lovingly care for Astro as he becomes Heartworm negative. It's quite an easy rehab process as it only entails mellow time with soft words and belly rubs. Farfel's will pay the vet bills and provide premium food and treats for this special pup as he becomes healthily heartworm-free. Astro will be arriving on transport in Boulder on Friday 3/24/17. Corgi Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

It got scarily close to Spot's euthanasia time in a dismal Texas shelter. It was definitely through no fault of his own..it's all a matter of space. He came in at a very crowded time (but then again..all times are very crowded) and was therefore given a very short window in which to be rescued. After a scramble by our very compassionate Texas rescuer (she has a soft spot for a really cute, but very frightened, fuzzy guy with a great temperament!) Spot was pulled out of the shelter at the last second possible. His rescuer, shelter workers and Spot's foster haven't stopped raving about this cute guy (who is filled with so much love just ... (Read More)waiting to blossom) ever since. Spot, at 12 - 18 months old and 22 lbs, is the perfect size to hike the trails or take along just about anywhere. He is such a perfect candidate to find his forever home in Colorado - Spot is a natural-born walker with the energy and enthusiasm to accompany his favorite person on any path. We envision Spot with an active family with older, dog-lovingl kids or retirees who enjoy spending their time with a comical fuzzy guy Spot would be a very family-oriented pup if given the chance...adventures, vacations or just hanging out at home would speak to the nature of this guy. A fun time would be exploring dog-friendly spots or time spent socializing with gentle canines and their dog-loving families. At the end of the day...there would be nothing better for Spot than to snuggle down with his family of humans and canines..he is unknown with cats. Spot can be counted on to be a truly positive addition to any home. He is a low-maintenance guy whose joy at being part of a committed family would know no bounds. After time to feel secure in his new home, Spot would shine in positive reinforcement group obedience classes since his desire to please is so strong. These type of classes create that special bond that exists between a trained, respectful dog and his people. After passing his temperament tests and vetting with flying colors, Spot is in a foster home in Texas being reminded of his basic house skills. His foster family has described him as a lovebug and a sweetpea...can we possibly say more? They did say that Spot may need a bit of time after his long transport to Boulder to be his happy and very loving self. Spot is in need of a sudsy bath and a great brushing‰'Û|. he will emerge with an amazing spotted coat that( over time) will speak of cottony softness and good health.     We all know how we get that awww feeling when we see an adorable young puppy. They're so new and fresh with every possibility open to them. That's the case unless they're in a high-kill shelter that quickly runs out of space. We're so grateful for the efforts of our great Kansas rescuers in saving Lucca. She could see that his temperament was so sweet and engaging that she couldn't allow him to be euthanized. Lucca is just 10 weeks old and weighs 9 lbs (expected to be approximately 45 - 55 lbs when full-grown.) He is calm and so very sweet that it's become a fun and rewarding experience for his rescuers. Lucca is very cute and so silly with a mind of his own. His rescuers have said that they haven't turned on the TV since Lucca came to the shelter...he's so entertaining. He's also like a blank slate...open and curious about everything around him. If Lucca continues this regiment of socialization that promotes positive relationships with other dogs and bonding with humans...he will become a well-adjusted and well-behaved adult companion. Lucca has been identified by the shelter vets as a beautiful and sweet Bernese/Border Collie mix puppy. Lucca has the cutest antics ever!. His puppyish and silly demeanor is just who he is. Lucca just appears to be more entertaining than your average puppy. If he is treated kindly with clear behavioral guidelines, he will become a well-adjusted guy who respects his people as his leaders. This is the kind of family we're searching for for this sweet and cuddly puppy. We feel strongly that Lucca should attend puppy kindergarten followed by positive reinforcement group obedience classes. We'll need a commitment from Lucca's adopters that they'll give Lucca the behavioral guidance that these classes provide. Farfel's is happy to provide a list of approved trainers in different areas of Colorado. We also feel it's very important that Lucca is provided with exercise and mental stimulation. He would be overjoyed with a future of walking along Colorado paths and enjoying the sunshine. We'd like a family that spends lots of time at home and chooses to include a fuzzy companion in their activities. Lucca can be taught that the car is a fun place that leads to great adventures out in the community. Lucca can therefore accompany his family just about anywhere. Cairn Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Whenever a sweet and engaging Terrier mix gets into an urgent situation, Farfel's rescuers like to help. We find that dogs of this breed mix are loving, smart and make great family companions. They fit so well into a household and make great companions for all age groups as well as other dogs. Sometimes rescue dogs are initially a bit shy....but put them into a home with a loving family that provides frequent socialization, nurturing, love and belly rubs.. and they will shine. Clover is one of these pups...she's a blank slate that's just waiting for the commitment of a great family. Her love will know no bounds as she becomes a best ... (Read More)friend and the greatest lap dog ever. Clover is such a great age and size... at 9 - 12 months old (such a great age - young enough to be open to new and wonderful possibilities in her life yet old enough to have left her babyish behavior behind) and weighs 15 lbs (perfect size to accompany her people anywhere a sweet and well-behaved pup is welcome). Clover is lucky enough to have inherited the superior intelligence, curiosity and fun-loving nature of the Westie. She is so excited and attentive when her people teach her the wonders of her world. If Clover is trained with a positive reinforcement trainer and given tons of love, socialization with both humans of all ages and other dogs, she will grow into a self-confident girl who will be a wonderful companion and lap dog extraordinaire. Clover has all the elements working in her favor since she's starting out with a great temperament, a love of life and a puppyish desire to please. We'd like to place Clover in a home with either active retirees or a younger family who loves spending lots of time with a fuzzy and devoted family member. Clover would also enjoy the company of a fun and respectful canine...she would love the playtime and companionship. Clover will shine for a family who is motivated to take her to group obedience classes. They will help to bring out all the wonderful qualities and loyalty that live inside of this incredibly cute Terrier mix. Clover will love the trails and paths of Colorado (she's the perfect size to enjoy long walks through the mountains). Window-shopping would also be great to fine-tune her urban skills and provide the socialization that is so important in the development of a dog's abilities. With feelings of security within the family, Clover will learn the skills of being alone and knowing her family will aways return. Clover is in a foster home in the Denver area.     Fritz is an incredibly cute ball of cottony fur that climbs into your heart (and lap) with a wag. At about 12 months old and approximately 13 lbs, Fritz is every bit the puppy-like kind of guy...fun and active....but at the same time he is a very loyal and devoted companion. We can see that Fritz was abused by a male at some earlier time in his life. It's with this knowledge that we'd like to go forward in searching for a female guardian for Fritz. At his previous home, he has been a very devoted, 1-person (female) companion. Fritz gives his entire heart to his person..but isn't necessarily social with others. It is for this reason that ... (Read More)we're searching for a female guardian who is seeking to bring a full-time fuzzy companion into her life. We feel it's important that his person doesn't work full-time outside of the home. An at-home job or a retiree would be perfect for Fritz. After a transitional period, Fritz will be the best friend that a stay-at-home kind of person could ever hope for. He is very well house trained and extremely clean about himself and his home. Fritz is so happy to show how smart his is... he'll sit, stay and shake hands like a champ. He also loves to go in the car...maybe a long walk is in store at a park or trail. A fenced yard would be so much fun for Fritz. He can play and sun himself while enjoying an afternoon with his human best friend. At day's end, Fritz would love nothing more than to stretch out on the couch. When it's time for bed, Fritz is the first to get under the covers and cuddle with his mom. Fritz is a non-shedding guy and will therefore require a commitment to great nutrition (salmon oil will make his coat SO soft) and periodic grooming to keep his hair cottony-soft, very healthy and matt-free. Fritz is currently in a foster home.
